April 24th-28th

One thing we always seem to hear is "I bet you are busy this time of year with wedding season."

Well... in Tallahassee wedding season only stops during football season and then it only really stops for FSU and FAMU home games. Kevin and I are Seminole boosters and the only times we do not work is for FSU home games. Kevin has never booked for home games and I joined him this year as I would take bookings for some home games but this year I am not working during any home games...don't worry Nate and Harry are still going to work games...back to our week.

It was a Cafe week as I worked there Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Tuesday I DJed for the Capital City Apartment Ass'n and then tag teamed with my good friend Keith as we did a little Karaoke- It's a new night at Cafe and hasent really taken off yet.

Wednesday- NUTS at Cafe as they usually are, I wasnt feeling too good so Nate took over and I went home to get some rest.

Friday- My friends in Crooked Shooz had to cancel for the night and I filled in for them. It was going to be a nice Friday off for me but helping friends is something we dont mind doing. It was the last Friday band night at Cafe before we officially take over Friday nights at Cafe. So we took over a little early. It started off slow but finished with a bang...We were all very happy how busy it was. Now our GT Friday nights are at Paradise, Cafe and Rubie Sky. So you have lots of options to come dance with us!

Saturday- Hearing "Thanks for everything." is wonderful after a wedding this Saturday evening I think It meant a whole lot more. Planning a wedding from out of town can be tough and Kellery and George did just that...well sort of as the MOB planned everything for them and for the first time ever I had a Bride and Groom I had never met. I met them both 1.5 hours before the start of the wedding ceremony at Goodwood plantation.

The ends of the planning were starting to come undone as the stress of the day was bearing down on them, well mostly the girls as the guys were doing fine. The MOG told me they hired me because I was good and I knew how to get things moving and could make things happen...right after that I got things moving and made things happen. In the span of about 10mins (ZOOOOM!) we were under control and ready to go. It was a beautiful day and the wedding went great.

The reception was at The Woman's Club at Los Robles and the decor was very earthy which fit the B/G it was pretty cool and the even decorated one of the kegs after we danced for a while and then the party was moving down to the MOB's house. I was packing up and got a very nice Thank you for everything from the MOB...then got a huge hug and a NO, really thank you for everything, we would probably still be standing around trying to get the ceremony started if you werent here today.

That was awesome hearing that...I finished packing up with a big smile on my face and then headed out to Rubie Sky for 80's in the Sky night...COME OUT! Saturday's are sooo much fun out there!

April 19-21

Thursday- DJ'ed and emceed Tallahassee 25's Bids for Kids at the University Center Club- headed to Cafe after...fun night-pics will be up soon on Robbs site. Joel Silver found this guy with a pretty cool tat.

Friday- DJ'ed and emceed another auction(third one this week) this was for Gilchrist School...they had some cool items and I even bought a game worn Marlins jersey..look for that on ebay soon...lol
then ran out to Rubie Sky to finish up a long two days---the place was NUTS...Tracy and Michelle-NO MORE JAGER BOMBS EVER!!!

Saturday- DJ'ed Jenna and Dayne's wedding at Malloy's . Had to load up to a second floor-that was not fun at all but the reception made up for that
then back to Rubie to take over for Nate who started the night out.

April 13-15

Two Rubies and a wedding in the middle-
DJed Rubie Sky both Friday night and Saturday night as Nate was out of town.
In between I DJed for Lisa and Brian Urban's wedding reception at Golden Eagle- WOW!
From the time the wedding party arrived to the time they left the energy at GE was awesome!
Brian and Lisa had wonderful fun guest-they didnt want the party to stop but the bus was leaving so we had to shut it down. We could of partied all night long... I worked with Mark Bass Photography and Silver Video for this one....
Sunday I head back out to GE for Brad Johnson's charity event to just do some emcee work.

My anti-DJ rant

We would like to thank the Leon High School Grand Reunion for hiring GT Entertainment as one of their first entertainment choices. We are very honored to have been asked to share the stage with some great Tallahassee bands, singers and Leon High Alumni.

We would like to thank Tallahassee Magazine and The Tallahassee Democrat for NOT including GT Entertainment in ANY of the articles about the Grand Reunion II. GT Entertainment is listed on the official Reunion and the Civic Centers websites as well as a few others- yet both Tallahassee Magazine and The Democrat printed “and more” after the other entertainers or just left us off as in the front page article this past Monday. I emailed the Democrat and asked why we were not listed in the paper. They didn’t respond to my email, I even asked the guy that wrote the article to come work with us one weekend and see exactly what we do week in a week out for our clients, I would of even paid him…but no response.

This is not a recent problem
For years we have been battling the stereotypes of what a mobile DJ does and is. For the most part I believe we have done a great job of separating ourselves from “that DJ”. But Tallahassee Magazine and The Democrat have been the toughest battle we have faced. It seems the mobile DJ doesn’t exist or isn’t important enough to be listed with them. We have asked Tallahassee magazine to include Mobile DJ in the Best Of awards several times to no avail. Not just for us, but for the other DJ companies in town. They have a best picture framer award but no DJ award. I think there are more DJ companies in town than picture framers-I could be wrong. We even advertised with them (Tallahassee mag) to get them to add the category. I have to thank Ed at EverythingTallahassee.com and The Tally Awards for adding DJ Services the last two years…and for making The Tally Awards Gala a charity event.

The Democrat isn’t going to get off easy either…
Several years ago I asked Drew at Paradise why we were never listed in the Limelight section about us DJing every Friday night. Drew showed me his email and his faxes that week in a week out we were listed with the stuff he sent over. Yet, we were never listed in the section. We are rarely listed for any citywide event where we work even though we know the organizers of the events are sending our name over with the event sheets. We finally tricked the Democrat by listing Greg Tish from 11-2 and we were listed every time Drew sent that over.

This is not a band vs DJ thing.

10 years ago on the first night I ever DJ’ed at Paradise when the band finished the drummer got on his mic and said “Support live music, all the DJ has to do is hit play” The second week I worked the band attempted to load my speakers out with them when they were finished, damaging one of them in the process. The third week I worked with Crooked Shooz and after they finished Mark got on the mic and said Greg is going to continue the party so keep dancing.
Crooked Shooz and I have been friends ever since, working many, many events together by their request. The first week’s band has been to many events with us through the years and is always out on the dance floor when we “just hit play”, they even changed their style and started playing music like we were DJing with. The second week’s band is still a bunch of jerks and no longer work at Paradise or any real good venues.

I have DJ’ed many weddings for folks in bands over the years (including two from the first week) and I have hired many bands to play for my events. It’s all apples and oranges in my eyes and in most cases in most band member’s eyes.
We both do one thing we entertain folks, just in different ways. I love a good band as much as the next person and I love a good DJ as much as the next person.
When someone hears a bad band they don’t hire THAT band…when someone hears a bad DJ they don’t hire ANY DJ…that’s our battle all DJ’s are lumped into one category and that’s unfair to all of us.

Through writing this I have learned I don’t need the Tallahassee Magazine or The Tallahassee Democrat to validate what we are doing I have hundreds and hundreds of very happy former clients that validate what we are doing. I have a magazine article written about us, I have two Tally Awards on my mantle, I have a desk full of thank you notes, I have been all over the country DJing and most importantly- I have a great staff and I have made some really great friends through this business. We will continue to do the great job we do and even if the cities top two publications do not recognize us…I think we’ve done pretty darn good without them so far.

April 5th-8th

Friday- I DJed Paradise after CPR rocked the deck. Twice in the booth at The Dice in a month pretty scarry...lol Had a ton of fun and thanks Kristen for sending this horrible pic of us.

Saturday- Having the right vendors can make all the difference in a wedding. I headed to the Homewood Suites for  Missy and Cody's reception. I worked with my friends from Lisa's Bartenders and we had a little bit of fun setting up as we really had no clue where the bar was to go-so we guessed. Someone from the hotel showed up 10 mins before the guest and informed us that the bar was to go in another room. So at that point I helped Lisa and her crew move the bar across the hall to another room. The caterers showed up on what they thought was on time but were late. You see the original hotel manager walked out on the job the day before, leaving all of us (including the bride and groom) in the dark... but everyone that was working was a pro and we quickly adapted to what was set in front of us...the guest had no clue that just before they arrived we were scrambling around behind the scenes.
We celebrated late into the night, well morning as we wrapped up around 1am. Dancing and singing German songs that the grooms family taught us!They also had a tradition of giving a gift with money for the bride and groom- the gift? a toliet filled with pudding hiding all the money-that they had to fish out with their hands.
